it all started with a wish
A wish by NY Slice Pizza's founder Mark Francis. Being stuck in one of Manhattan's many office towers, Mark -an accountant at the time- wished to escape the corporate life. Biting into a cheesy classic New York city style pizza slice after another long day of crunching numbers, Mark realized that you could not find NY Style or sliced pizza back in his home country of South Africa. Slowly but surely he started plotting his plan to bring NY Style Pizza back to South Africa. Finally in 2013 he was brave enough to make the jump from crunching numbers to flipping dough, and opened the first store in Kloof street, Cape Town in 2013.

But..
Mark had a few obstacles to overcome before he could open his first shop. Most importantly, Mark had no idea how to make pizza. Thus, he applied to some of NYC most popular pizza joints to learn the art of making the perfect pizza. While flipping dough, delivering pizza pies and stirring tomato sauce, Mark cooked up his own perfect pizza recipe.
Luckily
Mark was lucky enough to be made privy to New York pizza maker's secrets, as he trained with one of the best pizza chefs in the Big Apple, chef Federico who helped him finetune his recipe. After a couple months of kneading dough balls, cutting pepperoni slices and burning himself on the oven, Mark was ready to bring his recipe to South Africa.

Renovating
His first store mostly by himself, Mark was super excited to open the doors to his first shop. The long months of training, carpentry and sleeping on a foam matress under the oven where about to all pay off. Cape town loved NY Slice Pizza from the first bite, and the demand and apprication for the brand continued to grow, urging Mark to expand the brand over the years to come.
Expanding
From the first store in Kloof Street the company has expanded significantly, with currently 2 corporate stores and 9 franchises.
